Diabetes mellitus is a syndrome characterized by a condition of chronic hyperglycemia that may be complicated by organ damage. In the age group ranging from 20 to 79 years the prevalence of the disease is around 9%. Compensated diabetes mellitus does not prevent the possibility of working and does not imply a reduction in work capacity. In case of acute manifestations, poor compensation or chronic complications such as retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy or cardiovascular disease, the assessment of fitness for work must be established according to the task and the psychophysical conditions of the worker in order to protect his health.
