It is widely acknowledged that nanotechnologies will contribute to shape future growth and our lives. However, due to their peculiar features, there is some concern that the innovation generated by these technologies may be linked with risks and societal implications that could challenge their use. A research and innovation responsive of these issues is unavoidable to fulfill the expectations raised by these technologies. The key is Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), i.e. the development of products, processes and services that are safe and respectful of the fundamental ethical and social needs and expectations. The European Commission has made RRI a cornerstone of Horizon 2020, which will support the European research in the period 2014-2020.
The presentation will illustrate the key elements of the RRI concept and how to operazionalize them in the industrial practice.
